There will be tears..

Some days just have valleys. No rhyme or reason to em. Some days the bottom just falls out from under you. On days like this, I’ve gotten better at hitting the ground, Looking up, and thanking God that the fall wasn’t too bad. Because truth be told, my bad day is nothing when compared to ..

Tsunami victims. Car accident Victims. Widows. Orphans. People who are shorter than me. People who went bald at 8.

Even on my “bad” days, the only appropriate response is to thank God for his overwhelming mercy; and find ways to help people who are less fortunate than me.

Fly. Or Fall.

Today, I saw a man who played a huge part in my life, although the actual time frame that he appeared on my life’s stage was relatively abbreviated.
This guy was a neighbor. A much older man. Wholesome. Giving. Caring. Affectionate. He called me his lil tiger.
And I think I was at the exact age where I needed to be someone’s “Tiger”.

I was young. Ignant. Spent my days with my friends, playing ball and making rap music. He gave me an job. Emphasized the importance of hard work. Showed me what hard work looked like.
I remember manual labor. Moving tree’s, bales of hay, and pushing lawnmowers around expansive yards In the sun till I was the color of Hershey’s.
I remember he created leafy masterpieces on lawns that previously looked like 3rd grade drawings.

I don’t think any one thing that he did was groundbreaking. It was just that he was there with these things that he didn’t have to manufacture. He was there with a hug. He was there with praise. He was there with faith.

He was there with these things at the right time.

Thanks Eugene.

Oh Yea!

Today was a Amazing day.
I got the opportunity to present a scholarship to some pharmacy students today. A small scholarship – by no means a Bill/Melinda Gates scholarship but I think – a step in the right direction.
It really made me happy to think of the positive steps that God has kinda pushed me (and the Caucus) toward.

I also got the time to hang out with my brother – who is hands down one of the coolest people i know. And what a grinder! Makes me proud that he can outstudy me…at least at the moment. We went to borders after the scholarship presentation and grinded it out. He for his LSAT and me for the NAPLEX. Since his exam is next sunday and mine is in June – it was pretty apparent that his intensity overshadowed mine. lol.

Also got the chance to keep my side business going. Although I’m thinking that I may make a change in product lines 🙂 Still felt good to keep the grind alive. Ended the day with a great discussion with my brother about God’s role in our lives. All in all a absolutely wonderful day. Thanking God for the gift of life right now..

Any other name..

So Fear is a slippery beast. Random huh? Backstory: This year I committed that I would do any and everything that scared me even the least bit. I figure this is one way to really tackle long-term weaknesses and get solidly out of my comfort zone. And so far (although we’re only like 24 days into the new year) I’ve succeeded. I’ve done things that I wouldn’t normally do and faced some pretty irrational fears. But I guess fear [real self-confidence crushing fear] is a beast able to adapt to hostile environments… There was something I was supposed to do. That I told myself I was going to do. I didn’t promise myself I was going to get it done – which made it easy for my fear to disguise itself. To clothe itself in plausible and frilly excuses. Excuses so pretty and convincing that I found myself cheering on fear as it sabotaged my future. smh. Thank God for people who love you and are willing to step in when your doing something silly. People who are willing to check you and make you check your motivations. I hope to be that type of friend to others. But for today I’ll thank God for their presence in my own life. Thanks Parents.

Red-box with God

Yo. If the only problem you have is deciding what Redbox movie you wanna take home tonight. Your blessed.
Had conversations with friends after getting over a sickness without any healthcare.
Conversations where friends are worried about cancer.
Mom’s who don’t remember their son’s.
Dad’s who never learned how to be father’s.
and Son’s who never learned how to be men.

Twisted world we live in. Its beautiful to see when things get straightened out.
I want to be a person who helps detangles things.

In the meanwhile I’ll give wishes wings and pray for us all.

What I have to re-realize..

Is that life in America is not the norm.
For the vast majority of people deciding between a job that pays more than enough to survive and one that pays way more than enough to survive isn’t in the normal order of things.
For most people, life is a struggle.
Life is tough.
Life is hand-to-hand combat with a million different daily Goliath’s.
So..
When I get ready to complain, or get disgusted because I’m not comfortable.
When I wonder why “perfect” hasn’t arrived
When I wonder why my IDEAL isn’t realized
When I ask “How much longer must I wait”?

I need to take step back. Slip on my boxer gloves. Shut up.
Straighten my mouth-guard.
Then get back to the fight that is life.

Mango. Pomegranate.

“Enjoy the fruits of your labor.”
Got some good advice from my family the other night. I was busy worrying about the next step and what I need to do to make myself Amazing in my next stage of life. They, with more words than were probably necessary, said “chill out”. You’ve worked hard to get where you are, enjoy it a bit, and set the next goal. I had to concur. Its important that we don’t sacrifice our sanity to the rat race, and instead take time to be thankful, to observe our surroundings and look behind us at the many steps we’ve taken to get to where we want to be. Once we make sure that we are on firm footing and leaning on God and not on our own understanding then we’ll be able to move forward with confidence.
So I think I’m going to take some time to stop. to breathe. to appreciate. And find out where my next step will be.

Thanks family.
